Meggie Besaw
Assignment 2
English 102
While
reading the essay I though they were trying to show how a dull guideline
research paper can become interesting and out of the box. The essay talks about
how often research papers teach the act of producing as effortlessly as
possible because you tend not to have to think out of the box as much. Research
papers use to have one way of writing them with a set of certain guidelines you
have to follow. I know at least for me if I had no way of making a paper some
how little my own that I would easily lose interest and not put as much effort
into it.
The
rest of the essay shows how research papers broadened through the years.
Argumentative, personal, essay research, and multi
genre/media/disciplinary/culture research are all the different type of
research papers you can write. The essay explains the different ways that
allows students to embrace a research paper so that they put more effort into
the paper. People use research papers to follow questions they have about a
topic to help them understand it more.
First year college students tend to have to write a research paper in
the first year English and students are likely to come across a research paper
in other classes.
After
reading the essay I find their way of writing essay papers seems more
interesting and helped me feel more comfortable with the idea. I like the idea
of being able to put a little of my own uniqueness into it so besides my topic
it will be different from everybody’s. My ideas about research have changed
completely! I was didn’t understand much of research papers and I was not very
excited to learn and create a research paper this semester. After reading this
essay I’ve realized a research paper can be unique and you can use a topic that
is meaningful or interesting to you.
Hi, Meggie,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I am so glad that your ideas about research and research writing are changing...this is one of the purposes of the class!
The importance of choosing a question and topic "meaningful and interesting" to you cannot be stressed enough; part of the work of this class is to help you learn to analyze, and therefore make meaning, from the sources you encounter. Of course, we'll talk more about this as the semester progresses, but I am glad to hear that you're beginning to realize this now.
Lots to think about-- looking forward to hearing your ideas in discussion tomorrow!
